Sneak Peek

Fear not my lovely followers, I’m still here. I’ve just been busy crafting. My next project involves stenciling, so it’s taking FOR-EV-ER! Here’s a sneak peak.

It’s not the desk or a wall, so don’t get too excited. I’m hoping to be done on Sunday…

In other weekend news, I plan on thrifting ‘til I drop! No rain excuses this week! Hopefully I’ll have some goodies to show off on Monday’s Weekend Junk!

Craig and I – On Again

Craigslist and I have an on again/off again relationship. He’s like that guy who promises something awesome, but then you end up waiting by the phone for him to call. He doesn’t call and you end up dreaming of what could have been.

If you couldn’t tell from my intro, Craig has caused me some serious heartbreak over the past few weeks. I’ve been trying to find the perfect desk for about a month now, but every time I find one, it’s already gone…sigh.

Yesterday, Craig came through! I’m in love!

I was so nervous that it would be some particle board POS, but look at those dovetailed drawers!

I'm definitely keeping the hardware!

Despite my mom’s objections, it’s getting painted. Probably white with a dark walnut top.

Right now it’s living in my garage (if you can’t tell from the crap pictures), but it’ll soon be the first piece of furniture in my office!

Weekend Junk #6

I spent all last week planning an epic thrifting Saturday, but I woke up that morning feeling grumpy and tired. And it was raining. So, my thrifting trip ended up being kind of lame…only a few good finds.

Hung

Dirty minds, I’m talking about a clock.

Last night I finally bit the bullet and hung something on my walls. And true to my usual hanging style, there was a lot of eyeballing and very little measuring. I measured the distance between the fireplace and window, so the clock would be center, but the height I just kind of guessed at. As you can see, I was off by about an inch.

I’m sure most people will tell you to measure, measure, measure…or have some other tricky way to hang pictures. But I’m lazy, so I just stick a nail in there and see how it looks. And yes, behind every picture in my house you’ll probably find multiple holes. That’s the beauty of it…the picture covers my nail-hole-laziness! Ha!

Weekend Paint

I don’t have any junk to show off today because I spent the whole weekend painting. My mom came down to help me paint my kitchen/dining room/living room/hallway area. Everything was filthy white except the front door wall/half of the halfway which is a tan/gold/orange color. We didn’t get to the ugly tan walls, but the rest turned out great. However, I’m only going to show the “before” pictures today (and a preview). Tomorrow I’ll show off the “after” pictures.

I wish I would have taken some pictures of the walls up close because they were filthy. I could have lived with the boring white walls if they didn’t look so beat up. How do you get scuff marks 6’ up on the wall?!

It's amazing how different the same color can look in different lighting.

I have no f-ing idea what this color is called. When we took the color card to get the paint mixed we accidently left the card (or the paint guy jacked the card). My mom and I tried to look through the colors to see if we recognized the name, but no…so we’ll call this Mystery Neutral.

All About Sam and The Junk House

My name is Sam (yes, short for Samantha) and this is my blog The Junk House. I just moved from a 1-bedroom apartment to my very own 3-bedroom/2-bath house! Yeah buddy!

The first problem is that I have 900 sq ft worth of furniture to fill a ~1500 sq ft house. And let’s be honest, some of that furniture is the same mismatched shiz I’ve had since college. And so, the idea behind The Junk House was born. I'll be thrifting, craiglisting, yard saling, hot gluing, begging and borrowing my way to a fully furnished, beautiful new house!

The second problem is the house itself. It’s cute and I love it, but it needs some work.

So, I created this blog to show off my junkin’ finds and to feature my house-to-home projects. My random movie quotes and oddness is just an added bonus.
