March Before – Pantry

It’s March 1st – that means it’s time to announce my Before/After project for March. If you couldn’t tell by the title, I picked the pantry as my project this month. Working on the pantry has been on my to-do list since Christmas Break and I’d love to finally get it finished.

I took these pictures back in December when I first planned to work on the pantry. Everything looks pretty much the same except Ringo is a little bigger. You’ll see him in the pictures with his head in the food bag…

The Full Monty

Shelves on the left

Shelves on the right

The plan:
Paint walls
Paint shelves
Update switches/outlets to white
Replace light fixture
Move ironing board to laundry room
Buy container for Ringo and Abby’s food
Trash expired food
Donate unused items (like that wok in the top corner)
Recycle plastic bags
System for storing plastic bags (maybe something like this)
Rearrange items on shelves
Buy baskets and containers

I think that’s about it – and it definitely seems doable! 31 days ‘til the finish line!

  1. I love the game collection! I feel like you should add "The Game of Things" to your collection! It is probablyyy the most fun game ever! Especially if you have a little of that smirnoff going! hehe. But I did decide if I come to AZ to teach... I'm just gonna rent out your pantry as a bedroom because it's MASSIVE! You lucky thing you! I can't wait to see what all you do with it. I'm excited! Yay!

  3. If you stop using plastic bags, you won't have to store them.

Feel free to send your Taboo game my way, I love that game!

  4. I can't wait to see the finished project! I thought to myself the other day "I should clean one closet a week for spring cleaning". Now that I've seen this, I will write it down and do it! I'll be back as I can't wait to see it!

  6. that picture of ringo boy with his head in the dogfood bag cracks me up!

well sam, i have to say, my pantry is made up of open shelves in back corner of my kitchen. so containers are a must to make it look more 'together'. i got some really nice biggo glass jars with metal lids, and some metal containers with lids (but they have window) for things like my pasta, grains, beans. As far as the pasta goes, i just clip the cooking times and put it in the back of the jar so I can see it when I need to but nobody else does in the meantime. Also, picked up some simple square plastic contatiners at the dollar store to hold like items. As well as some white wire basket to rangle things. Even though you can see through the baskets, it still neatens everything up. good luck!btw, i think my wok is in the attic. :)

  7. I wish I had a pantry, but I have to store everything in my kitchen. I'm looking forward to seeing the changes ...
By the way, as there were some game recommendations, we love "QWIRKLE". We play it every day.
Now about the plastic bags - you might consider not accumulating them in the first place if you don't use them later. We keep two of those big blue IKEA bags in the back of our car and put the groceries in there after the shopping so we don't have to buy those plastic bags at all. If you have in mind how they pollute the oceans of the world, this might be an idea that works for you as well.
