Master Bathroom Mood Board

Although I’m still working on the living room and office, I’m ready to start on another room!
I’ve been talking about making over the master bathroom since I bought the house and now I’m finally ready to get going.
As a reminder, I started with this:

That’s the only picture I have of the original wall color and faucet. Shortly after closing we made a lot of updates: we painted the walls, replaced the faucet, replaced the light fixture, installed a new showerhead, updated the switches/outlet, replaced the toilet, and added a toilet paper holder. A few months later I added a new shower curtain, artwork, a towel bar, and replaced the baseboards. And that’s where this room stands today.

Well, I’m officially over the black and white damask shower curtain and sick of looking at a cabinet with a missing drawer, so it’s time for the makeover to begin. As with my last 3 rooms, I’m starting the makeover with a mood board. It really helps me to see everything together before I start shopping. Here’s what I put together for my bathroom (resource list at bottom of post):

Luckily my dad helped me with most of the projects when I first moved in, so this is mostly going to be a little painting, a couple projects, and a lot of decorating.

Although the walls are already gray, I think I’m going to re-paint them a different shade of gray. I’ve just never really loved the color on the walls. Right now I’m loving Kevin and Layla’s Gray Owl lightened by 50%.

The biggest project in the room is going to be the vanity.  I need to replace the missing drawer, but I’m thinking about replacing all of the doors/drawers for a more updated look (plus I think it’s going to be hard to get one matching drawer). I’m going to paint the whole thing white and replace the countertop with something darker. The current countertop has yellowed slightly, so I’m sure it’ll look horrible with a fresh, white cabinet.

Once that’s complete I’m going to frame the existing builder-grade mirror. I’m also going to replace the rusty medicine cabinets with new beveled glass ones. I kno
w some people think medicine cabinets are uncool, but I love having all the extra storage.

The new shower curtain is from Target and I’ve already checked it out in person. It’s lighter and less formal in person than in the picture. The yellow towels, rug and a few colorful accessories will add some color and fun to the room.

So here’s the official to-do list:
Paint Room
Replace Missing Drawer
Paint Vanity
New Countertop
Replace Medicine Cabinets
Frame Large Mirror
New Shower Curtain
Re-Caulk Shower
New Towels
Buy Bath Mat
Add Lettering to Trashcan

The list isn’t too bad and I’m hoping to get a couple items crossed off right away to gain some momentum!

TV & Gallery Wall Sneak Peek

Can you believe it’s been over a month since my last office project?! I haven’t made as much progress as I’d like, but I love how it’s looking so far. Today I’m crossing one of the easiest projects off my list and sharing a sneak peek of another project.

Yep! I mounted the TV on the wall and I did it all by myself! I bought this TV mount from Amazon. It was only $25.00 and was pretty easy to install. I still need to hide the cords, but at least now we can watch TV while we work at the desk or run on the treadmill.

And now that the TV is up I can start on the gallery wall. I’ve already started gathering items to hang around the TV, but I still have a few more pieces to find for each side. Everything is from Hobby Lobby except the parking sign (already owned – originally from swap meet) and butterfly art (IKEA).

I’m headed to IKEA this weekend, so I’m planning on grabbing a 5x7 frame for each side and an 8x10 to hang under the TV. I already bought the supplies to make an “I’d Rather Be Fishing” sign for my boyfriend’s side…now I just need to make it. After all of that, I think I only need a couple more items and I’ll be ready to hang! I can’t wait!

Apothecary Cabinet

To buy or DIY – that is the question.
My original plan to fill the space between the window and fireplace was to build a card catalog (similar to Stacy’s DIY version). I love a good DIY project and after building our desk, I felt confident I could build another piece.

That was my plan…until I spotted this apothecary cabinet at Target.

After a little measuring I figured out that it was the perfect size for my space, so I chose to buy instead of DIY. Considering how much I would have spent on wood and hardware, the $149 price tag didn’t seem unreasonable. And that’s not even factoring in the time it would have taken me to build a card catalog!

I love that this space has a real piece of furniture now. Bye-bye old IKEA nightstand! I still need to style the cabinet and lower/move the clock, but I how the space is looking so far.

For those of you who want to know more about the cabinet, it’s the Threshold Apothecary Graywash Cabinet. It’s pretty light – I was able to lift it into the shopping cart by myself. The bottom two rows of drawers are actually two big drawers instead of individual cubbies, which is nice for storage. So far I’m completely happy with this piece!

Another item on the to-do list bites the dust:
Replace arm chair
Find coffee table
Sew throw pillows
Buy garden stool
Style entertainment center shelves
Replace missing baseboard
DIY abstract art
Re-paint console table
Buy large plant/pot
Paint China Hutch
Decorate fireplace mantle
DIY card catalog (apothecary cabinet)

Late Twenties

Yesterday was my birthday! The big 2-7! I think that officially moves me from mid-twenties to late twenties!

I had a fun, low-key birthday with my boyfriend and dogs. We played in the pool, went out for dinner and ice cream, and then watched True Blood and the season premier of Dexter. It was the perfect way to spend the day!

26 was a great year and I can’t wait to see what 27 will bring!
